Living & Working in PNG

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

I have been offered a long term working position in PNG and the project could take atleast 3 years to complete. I need to relocate from one of the metropolis in India. How safe is it for an expat to work & live in PNG.

There is a large Indian population living in Port Moresby, some have been here for years and years.

Expats are not specifically targetted, but crime rates are very high so we get our share of armed robbery, carjacking, house breakins, etc. The bigger issue is whether your employer will be paying your rent for you. Rental costs are staggeringly high, with most 'secure' housing increasing in price by 20 + percent every year. They are so high, that rent is quoted to you per week. Groceries and shop costs are expensive as well.

There's a PNG forum that you can google and get more information.

NorthernLight you are very correct. Accommodation is expensive.

There is an Indian Community here (incorporated association) and they can help you out.

Have any specific questions etc... don't hesitate to post a questions here http://facebook.com/myskerah our fans will be more then happy to answer your questions.
