I need to find a place to stay for three nights in 10 days time for a business trip to POM. Since booking my trip I have discovered how much more you have to pay in POM for international standard accommodations. I want a safe place with decent services with as little damage to my wallet as possible. Looking on wotif.com, all of the listed hotels are AUD 300 and up. Booking.com, my usual MO, lists no hotels in PNG. I have the LP but prices seem to be hopelessly outdated in the current edition. Any advice on where to stay, how to book for the best rates, are appreciated. Thanks,
I stayed at the Ella Beach Hotel just under 12 months ago and found it comfy and not too expensive (can't remember how much it was now but definitely not $300 a night). You can book through their website. | 1
Greetings from the wireless hotspot at the Ela Beach Hotel. I chose this place after seeing the PGK 660/night rate on the website you link. That isn't USD 300 but it is $250. For that you get a room that looks and feels like an American motel, with horrible beds, and a restaurant where most dishes, and I have tried many, are just barely passable. But you can walk around the area during the day and also into Town. Let's face it, POM is a very expensive place period. I think this is one of the cheaper options in this range. | 2
Try Hideaway Hotel Pleasant place although access roads are possibly unsafe late at night. Port Moresby is one of those places where walking around as a single foreigner is just not possible. Most PNG people are fine and friendly but there are a lot of gangsta types and bad dudes in Moresby. There's not much to see in Moresby. For transport, ask at the hotel or try Scarlets or The Ark taxi companies. The hotel might provide airport transfers. | 3
Sorry Alexander. Just noticed the date of your posting so I assume that your trip to Moresby is past tense. Hope you found reasonably-priced accommodation. | 4
