Looking for Mt Wilhelm Trek partner(s)

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Single female traveller looking to do the Mt Wilhelm trek after the Goroka Sing-Sing in September, but a solo trek is very expensive. Looking for someone to join to keep costs down. The dates for the trek would be 17 – 20 September 2012 departing from Goroka on Monday 17th, returning to Goroka on the 20th. Flying to Port Moresby on the 20th late afternoon to continue trip. Trip costs for two are 3240 PGK or 1530 USD, for three sharing 3000 PGK or 1416 USD. Costs include full-board accommodation (1 night lodge, 1 night base camp, 1 night lodge, vehicle fees, park fees, porter and guide) Contact cb@bestofpng.com for more information

I don´t know about your travel experience and your requirements but if you cannot find a trekking partner you could easily do the tour by yourself without booking an expensive tour. Take a local transport to Kundiawa and from there to Kegsugl which is the base for climbing up Mount Wilhelm. The route is doable in one day. Stay at east kegsugl guesthouse (the name changed but the old name is still well kown) or bettys place ( havent been there but was told its better) and arrange a local guide and maybe porter. You will walk up to Pindaunde Lakes where you probably stay overnight and start to climb up to the summit early in the morning. Coming down the second day you stay one more night in Kegsugl before returning to Goroka the next day. The only problem could be to reach the flight from Goroka as the local transport in PNG is not really on a fixed schedule. But even renting a car with driver for four days might be much cheaper than your tour.

Looking at going up for Goroka show and was thinking about Mt Wilhelm also. Looking at options for the climb. Would be good to team up for the trip.
