Madang

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi,
I am going to Madang in mid September.
I would like to know whether there is any day trips to the highlands? or is there any other day trips available?

Thanks.
Tommy

If you enjoy diving, Madang is the place to do it apparently. I've been to Madang several times for work. No playtime has meant I've missed out on the diving, but have heard plenty about it.

Deep sea fishing is also good out there if that is your thing.

Hi tomoey,
although I'm late on this post, maybe the answer will help out others that look at the topic.
There are no day trips to the Highlands from Madang unfortunately, it is just that tiny bit too far.
There are day trips offered by a company called MTS (Melanesian Tourist Services). They do a variety of day tours around the area: up to the villages in the Amele area (Hobe & Haiya), to see war remains & the old mission station at Alexishafen on the North Coast, and to Bilbil Village for pottery on the south coast. They also do day trips out to the islands around Madang for snorkelling. Their diving branch Niugini Dive adventures runs all sorts of diving trips every day. Spiegirl is right: this is the drawcard for Madang.
