Money and Food

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

I had never been in Papua New Guinea before and for what I can read here at the forum is a very different experience than anywhere else. A friend of mine was in PNG many years ago and he also mentioned it was a totally different experience, so I am sorry if my questions are stuped.

-I was looking in the lp printed guide about the money thing and there is ATM“s in the expensive hotels at Port Moresby and aparently one in Goroka etc. Anyway I am attending the Goroka show. I arrive to Port Moresby and about 5 or 6 hours after my arrival I am taking an airplane to Goroka. So If I arrive with US dollars is there any chance to buy Kinas at the airport?

-Also reading the lp printed guide. Only mention two restaurants in Goroka. Since the Goroka show will be taking place during my stay and town gets totally full. What about food if there is only two restaurants and they get crazy because of the number of visitors. I am assuming that more places will be open and food will be available etc. Is that correct?

Once again I am sorry. I am an experienced traveler (even when it doesnt look like) but just want to be sure about those two silly questions

Thanks in advance

Iirc there was a money changer inside the airport at Port Moresby but it was closed, there are ANZ and BSP ATMs though.

I didn't go to Goroka but I rarely found restaurants where I went (and I reckon they are quite expensive) so I usually ate food from the street markets (fish, a palm tree thing that sounds like "seigo", banana, etc) or from Chinese supermarkets everywhere which are big and sell plenty of stuff. Food prices were between cheap and ok compared to Australia/NZ.
