money

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

hello;
im heading to png for 5 weeks, im not sure on the money situation, is there enough cash machines over there just to use them, should i use travellers checks, and if so is it easy to change them or should i take cash

There are ATM in the major cities, the ANZ bank is the best bet for international cards. See this link http://www.anz.com/PNG/importantinfo/atmlocations.asp<BR><BR>ANZ, Bank South Pacific & Westpac should be able to change cash & traveller cheques as will major hotel such as those in the coral seas group: http://www.coralseahotels.com.pg/lamington.html.

You be ok will any of the 3 options in the major cities (Pt Moresby, Lae, Goroka, Mt Hagen, Madang, Wewak, Kokopo) but cash would be best outside these.

Happy travels
