Hey again - some more info from my trip to PNG last November - December. We spent a weekend with George at Muschu Island just off Wewak. He's been mentioned once or twice before on this forum, and I can't believe he doesn't rate a mention in the lonely planet books. They barely even mention that Muschu Island exists! It was absolutely beautiful there, with good surf, and great budget. I can't remember for sure, but it was around 10-20 kina per night per person, and you can pay extra for meals and for George to pick you up from Wewak. Its the perfect eco-friendly or ethno-friendly or whatever place to stay. I posted some info and photos on my blog - http://gavcleland.blogspot.com/ Recommended for absolutely any kind of traveller... unless you just want cocktails by the pool or you'd rather check out the local TV stations... PS - sorry bout repeating myself, I got a bit confused trying to get this onto the PNG branch and can't delete the old versions of the same message...
Thanks for the post Gavuano. I too stayed with George on Muschu Island and would definitely recommend it to any independent travelers. George can help arrange many local tours ranging from fishing to jungle trekking to visiting old World War II sites. Of course, you can always just lounge around on the beach. Your pictures are great and bring back a lot of memories. Happy Trails. | 1
Yep..stayed there too,in May 2007...BUT please be aware that are some hidden charges if you bring your own food and let his wife to cook it... He is a very nice person, but tries a bit too hard to make money out of anything. His boat tours where very expensive, even by PNG standards... | 2
