Papua New Guinea in February - Weather ConcernsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
Hello everyone, I am planning a two week trip to PNG in February as it is the only time that I will be able to go. I am just a bit concerned because apparently it is in the rainy season (especially in the Highlands) where roads are often flooded. I would like to travel to Port Moresby, Goroka, Alotau, Losuia and Misima Island. Do you think I should change my itinerary in any way to avoid the worst of the weather (especially Goroka)? Also, any other travel tips regarding the best places to experience the indigenous cultures and villages of PNG would be appreciated. Thanks Simon
the highlands have a wet/dry season climate but the dry season still rains a lot - its more very-wet/wet - although because of el nino this dry season has been truly dry rain can cause problems with transport in the wet season dec-mar - depending on what you plan to do it may be better to avoid the highlands or go another time the islands have no real seasons - hot and humid all the time with some rain on many days | 1
