Papua New Guinea visa for a Russian citizen

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Anyone have any experience of applying for a PNG visa for a Russian citizen? Various websites say Russians have to apply in person to your nearest PNG embassy or consulate but we're currently traveling the Philippines and the nearest PNG consulate is quite far away, in Manila! We'll be back in Manila briefly in February and will be heading to PNG in May. Is this enough time for a Russian to get the visa, will repeat trips to the consulate be required and how likely is it that the visa will actually be granted? Also, we will be entering overland from Papua Province, Indonesia, so may not know the exact date of our arrival in PNG - is this a problem? Thanks for any help, info or advice!

thanks don. Just wondering if its wise for a Russian citizen to leave getting the visa until so late or if its better to apply in Manila?

privet, you may find your best option for obtaining png visa is in jayapura(the capital of provinsi papua)as you are coming through there, the png consul issue visas to png, this can take up to 5 working days though!!!see previous note on location, hours, cost, etc.with png authoritys closing the border to only holders of passports, the shops are closed at the border and transport to vanimo in png has all but dried up!this may change by the time you plan the journey.the rate for taxis/cars from jayapura to wutung(border)is around rp350,000.

eddy,i would say you best option is getting it in manila,as long as you have enough time, the png consul in jayapura are well known for "unexpected "delays in the issue of png visas,ie,excuses like no power to process, closed for holidays etc etc...good luck.

I would also STRONGLY recommend trying to get it in Manila!

I myself have often had trouble getting the PNG visa in Jayapura, and that for a Hungarian passport, not a Russian one!
And if she fails to get it in Jayapura, it will be a VERY long trek back to wherever else she could try.
The last time I asked them, the PNG embassy in Jakarta was only issuing visas to those flying to Moresby, saying overland travellers should get them in JYP.
