Papua New Guinea wet season now?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
Headed to PNG Nov 1. Taking a look at the weather every so often in Goroka, every day shows 'chance of thunderstorms'. I know the wet season is generally around December onward, but is it early this year? Even still, can you have an enjoyable trip w/o constant rain the first half of November? Thanks.
Hi! I've been to PNG for work five time, in Enga province, each trip for at least 2 weeks in January, March, July, August and December and it rained almost every day on every trip, regardless of the time of year. Most of the time the rain comes and goes during the day and night, although mostly afternoon showers and never fell continously for too much more than a few hours. Things could be a bit different in Goroko though. From what I've experienced I wouldn't let the thought of going in the 'wet season' put you off. I think wet anad dry seasons in many places are not as well defined as they once were. Have fun! | 1
I agree with carolyn, I wouldn't let it put you off. The rain makes it muddier & the river crossings wilder if you plan to trek. This can make it more of an adventure. The rain isn't constant, it comes & goes. But it changes very suddenly so make sure you're always prepared. | 2
Hi. Goroka weather is known to be pretty good. Anytime of year here can be 'wetter than usual' and also 'dryer than usual'. Most days, even in November are sunny and quite warm for a good chunk of the day, and likely to see a shower or storm in late afternoon and evening. It cools off a bit at night. Cheers | 3
