PNG Aid Worker/Volunteer Visa - ICD Approval - Help!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi all!

I'm due to head to PNG in a few months to do a 3-month unpaid internship, but first I need to get a visa for that under the aid worker/volunteer category. I'm from New Zealand and thus apply through the PNG High Com in Wellington.

When I called them up though, they said before I could send them any documents, I needed to get 'ICD approval' - that's approval from Immigration & Citizenship Services in Moresby, as I understand it. However, when I called I&C in Moresby they weren't sure what I was talking about.

Has anyone gone through this process themselves before? If so, how did you obtain ICD approval (if at all)?

Thanks!

Alice

PS: I've been to PNG before but I just got a visa on arrival then as it was a short-term trip unrelated to any work.

Are they talking about a police clearance? I ahd to get one each time I worked in Solomon Islands, even though I was self-funded the second time.
The people who are organising your internship would probably be the best people to do this for you.

Hey Ozziegiraffe - thanks for your comment. :) This one's different to a police clearance, but good thinking all the same.
