PNG Consulate - Jayapura

Please note that the PNG Consulate in Jayapura is not the place to get a visa for PNG.

You must ensure you already have a valid visa before going to Jayapura. Visa applications in Jayapura are taking over a week with no guarantee of success. They do not seem to be able to give 60 day visa's either.

Be warned, do not risk it!

When crossing the border to Vanimo it is best to check with the immigration office in Jayapura before heading off as some visa's cannot be stamped out at the border apparently. This shouldn't be too tough a task. The border crossing itself is very straight forward.

i believe that the "consulate"in jayapura is now only an honourary consulate,with a lack of ability to process visas,it has had a downhill slide in being able to do anything for many years now.so the question i have is.....if am a tourist to png and want to go to jayapura(indonesia)...how do i get a visa to go back to png to fly out?

Unfortunately I believe the consulate is a real one, with an office, staff and consul general. The building it is in does not seem to house any other business.

Speaking a few years ago to a very helpful consulate staff member (who has unfortunately been moved back to POM) they said that Jayapura was not considered a great posting for career officers. Even back then the consulate was rarely staffed and visa's took well over 5 days if you didn't get the good officer handling your application.

They seemed to be very suspicious of anyone wanting a visa and this mindset does not seem to have changed.

To me it seems that attitudes at that consulate have kept changing a lot over the years.
Getting a visa sometimes got harder, then easier again.
Hopefully things will change for the better once more.

The PNG embassy in Jakarta issues visas, but only to those flying to PNG - or so they said to me a few years ago.

Any update on situation of processing visas for travelers BY LAND at the PNG consulates in:
(a) Jayapura
(b) Jakarta
(c) Kuala Lumpur

What is processing time at each embassy location?

What about the "onward airplane ticket"? I won;t have one as i hope to travel by BOAT to Solomon Islands , or return to Indonesia by LAND
