PNG March 1 to April 5

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi
I am considering a trip to Papua New Guinea. I would like to do the sepik river and the Solomon Islands. I see that March is low season/rainy in PNG? Has anyone advice on travel to PNG in March or have you heard about whether travel there is viable during the last two weeks of March and the first week in April.? Thank you for your insights on this subject.
Most gratefully yours,
George

Hello, I am heading there myself in a few days. I am not going to lie I read some disturbing things since making the decision and would certainly like more information. Have you found any useful sights or information that gave you peace of mind when choosing PNG?

carm90 - where are you going in PNG ? it is a big and diverse country !

Spoken with some people, yes. I still don't have concrete, reliable, information regarding the weather in February and March. I hear that most of the country is rainy and inhibits travel plans . What have you heard about the weather during this time Which you are traveling.?

george - you asked the same thing on tripadvisor and i and others gave responses

the south (moresby and southern highlands) has a defined rainy season dec-march and dry season with little rain
(may-sep)

in the north of the country (including the middle sepik) the wet/dry seasons are much less defined and you get rain at all times

on the islands there are no seasons - there is lots of rain at any time

no reason not to go to sepik in feb/march but be prepared for some rain if you are there for a while at any time

I just want to add that majordom is very correct regarding weather in the Sepik region. Do you have a contact in Wewak? Enjoy your trip.
