PNG or west papua for the most untouched tribal life ?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi !

I'll be in jayapura west papua within a month and i'm hesitating between heading to PNG directly or stay in west papua.

I am looking for a possibly long trek to reach remote village and discover traditional life. Probably no more naked hunter-gatherers anywhere but the most untouched will be the most interesting for me...

Anyone who's wandered around both West Papua and PNG to give advice about that ?

THx.

No place is really "untouched" in the 21st century, but I think West Papua is better for you.

Just came back from 1 to 3 weeks treks in both west papua and png staying close to the border and in the end png was more untouched than indo side. It was easier to travel as well because much more people keep walking the bush tracks and living in the jungle.
