Hi All, I plan to spend a couple of months in PNG later when I have time but now that Virgin have just launched cheap flights from Sydney I am thinking of spending my Xmas break (2 weeks) somewhere that won't be too expensive or too hard to get to and that my partner can dive and I can engage with some local life and also chillax and hang on the beach a bit. Can anyone recommend somewhere that won't be too much hassle to get to from Port Moresby and that won't be a high end resort. I'm used to only traveling very cheaply and I understand PG isn't cheap but I can only go if it won't break my budget. I know this is a broad question but it's a last minute decision and it's hard to do the research. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, what will the weather be like? Cheers
with xmas so close, bookings may be tight,my suggestion is the area around tufi in oro province, from moresby airlines png do 4 flights direct to tufi per week.for a smell of what to expect check www.tufidive.com | 1
Flight return Port Moresby to Tufi is AUD$475 | 2
Hi Jez, I stayed at a locals motel in Port Moresby, the Ponderosa Family Hotel, its simple but clean and cheap, good food there as well. Plus the staff who are just so friendly will take you were ever you want to go, I recommend you take up there offer as a German guy that was staying there same time didn't and was beaten and robbed within 30 minutes of leaving the compound. Cathy the Manager became my private tour guide. The rate I paid per night was 185kina which is approx $93AUD in Sept 2008. | 3
Hi Jez. i think i have got the right place for you. try the Nusa Island Resort in Kavieng, New Ireland Province. you can check out their website for more info. Air Niugini flies regularly to Kavieng via Rabaul about three times a week I guess. Kavieng is very laid back and safe and if you happen to be there on a Friday do check out the seafood buffet at Kavieng Hotel. Alternatively you can try Madang as well. Have fun! | 4
Hi guys, Thanks for all your information. Temperance, the Nusa Island does indeed look great! Any idea what it costs to get back and forth to the mainland? Thanks | 5
