PNG Visa from Jayapura, flights etc

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

I recently tried to obtain a PNG visa from the Embassy in Washington and was told that I could not do so without a flight in/out of PNG - and since I'll be flying in/out of Jayapura that they could not issue me a visa. I'm a bit concerned that I'll have to waste several days in Jayapura obtaining the visa from there. Does anyone have information on how long it takes to arange a visa once in Jayapura or is there a way to arange for the visa to be ready in advance (I sent the consulate there an email asking this question but did not receive a reply).

Also, I'd be interested in knowing how easy or difficult it would be to show up in Vanaimo and arange for a flight to Kiunga? I'd try to book ahead with MAF but since I don't know how long the Visa might take I don't know what day I'd be in Vanaimo for a flight. I'm hoping that you can just show up and easily board a flight - but wonder if it will be that easy.

The PNG consulate in Jayapura is truly unpredictable.
They have given out visas the same day, in a week, or not at all!
Good luck with them.

I am not sure MAF flights can be booked in advance, but in any case they seem easy enough to get on.

the current going rate to obtain a png visa in jayapura is 5 working days!!!this can vary wildly!!!cost is 225.000rp.flights from vanimo are rare with most seats on small planes already full, you may like to try to charter a flight with dovair(ask for kevin)it may save you a lot of waiting?
