PNG Visa on Arrival at the border between indonesia and PNG

my country (Italy) is among those eligible for Papua New Guinea VoA but I can't find if the visa on arrival is just if arriving by plane or also by land....I would like to arrive to PNG overland from Indonesia.
In your experience is it possible to get a PNG visa at the Indonesia-PNG border ?
Or should I get a visa in Jayapura ? how many days it takes ?

Not available at the land border.
And the last time the Indonesian border guard there said they wouldn't even let one out Indonesia without having a PNG visa.
You should get a visa in Jayapura. The procedure changes all the time. Sometimes easy and fast, othet times they make it difficult.

Port Moresby (POM) and Rabaul (RAB) are the only points of entry for VOA (source: http://www.iatatravelcentre.com).

do not attempt the land crossing without doing your research - several reports here and on the tripadvisor forum

if you just want to go into PNG and back again for a day trip to tick it off then there have been reports
of being able to make an informal entry and return possibly with an 'informal fee' - this is not recommended

if you want to continue into PNG then you must get the visa either before travel or in jayapura - you need to be flexible with timing and have a plan B in case it is not possible

there is lots of smuggling at the border of which PNG is mainly concerned about guns and such activity can close the border - also the activities of west papua independence fighters can be an excuse on either side to close the border
