Port Moresby - New Craft Market?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Does anyone have information concerning "the new craft market located between Le Hunte Road and Healy Parade on the waterfront at Ela Beach, the new craft market will see arts and crafts sellers moved from their present location at Tabari Place in Boroko to this modern facility. The National Capital District Commission is funding the project."

What are the hours? Or is the PNG Arts warehouse better?

This structure has been built along side Ela Beach Road, but is not used. It is a large under cover space, with a concrete floor. It has no passing pedestrian traffic and I suspect that is why it is not used: there are no customers there!

The existing craft market in Tabari Place is an open air, dirt floor market. It is in the centre of Boroko, a busy commercial and retail suburb of Port Moresby, with lots of passing pedestrian traffic.

I think it is an example of bureacracy gone mad - someone in the NCD thought it would be a good idea to have a covered market near the centre of town, but forgot to ask the market sellers what they thought.

PNG Art is THE place to go for artifacts in Port Moresby. They have a huge range of stuff from all over PNG and their prices are very good. They will ship your goods overseas for you and arrange fumigation if required.

I think they have e-mail but I don't have the address handy. No website.
