Rabaul in December/January- will it RAIN!!!!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Fellow Travellers,

We are thinking of visiting Rabaul December/January and would very much like to know what we can expect from the weather gods. (ie rain!!)

We are very much outdoor people- keen divers, fisherman and are beach lovers in genera. We would also like to hike volcanos, visit parks & wildlife etc.

What is the weather like in December/Jan (ie can we expect alot of rain!!!) We have visited Asia in wet season and just had on hour or so of rain each day in the afternoon which was totally fine with us. However, we don't want to be stuck indoors for 3-4 days if PNG has constant heave rain.

Any info is much appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

definitely the rainy(er) season - forecasts and climate widely availiable on the internet

the rain is not like some parts os SE asia where in the wet seasons it rains every day at 4pm
but is much more random and unpredictable - it is certainly possible to rain for 3 straight days
but then again you could have 3 days with no rain at all (although not likely at this time of year)
