red scar island

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

A friend of mine is looking for an island that his mother's family used to holiday on a long time ago in PNG called (at that time) Red Scar Island - it had a coconut plantation on it among other things.

I have done a bit of research into finding this place and don't seem to be able to do so and was wondering if anyone had any idea where it is and even if it is still called Red Scar (we think it may have been sold and I don't know if you can change names of private islands??? but maybe that's why there is no info to be found anywhere).

Anyway, failing all other methods, I thought that perhaps someone might have heard of or been to this place and could point me in the direction of some information?

Thanks for your help.

I have a large map of PNG on my wall and was looking at it today and noticed that there is a 'Red Scar Bay' about 100 kms west of Port Moresby. It is between the villages of Lea Lea and Hisiu. I have also seen a truck driving around Port Moresby with 'Red Scar High School on the side. I tried to find a phone number for the school but couldn't find it in the PNG telephone directory. But it seems that Red Scar does exist.

Good luck in your search.

David
