Sepik river tours - info

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hey all,

a bit of information from my trip to PNG last November. My fiancee and I travelled around a little bit, it was her first time in PNG and my fourth. It was my first time to the Sepik, and having read LP and talked to a few people, I figured that even though booking through a tour company is expensive, it would give us peace of mind. We booked through PNG Frontier Adventures, who were very very helpful and informative.

We chose a five day tour of the Upper Sepik, which you can read about at http://gavcleland.blogspot.com/ and they hired the local expert, Joe Kone, to be our guide. The tour was excellent, we were really impressed with Joe and with the company.

Without saying anything critical of the tour company, it did become clear that we could have booked directly with Joe and saved a lot of money...

So my recommendations to anyone heading to the Sepik - for peace of mind and for creature comforts along the way, definitely go with PNG Frontier Adventures. But if you want to save a few bucks, I'm very happy to recommend Joe Kone. He was thoroughly professional, reliable, knowledgeable, and is well known along the Upper Sepik.

Joe's email - joesephykone@yahoo.com.au
not sure how often he checks his email, but I think he tries to every week.

I'm always happy to tell you more about our trip... gavuano@gmail.com

We unfortunately had a very bad experience with Joseph Kone, and met other tourists who said the same. I wish someone had warned us. Seems like only those with positive experiences post here on Thorn Tree. :(
Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or want recommendations on the good guesthouses & villages to visit in the Sepik River.
