I want to visit the Sepik River in late April or early May. I'll already be in Port Moresby on business. I lived in PNG about 10 years ago and I have returned regularly. It is an amazing, beautiful place despite the violence, the corrpution, and the atrocious prices for tourism. I found a couple of tours on the internet, that sound excellent but I have sent numerous messages to Sepik Adventure Tours about it and have received no replies. I've even sent a message via the PNG Tourism Authoriity. Any suggestions.
In December 2006 I went on a fantastic tour with PNG Frontier Adventures . Check out their web site. I highly recommend Kris as a guide. Seach for my trip report which I would have posted in about January 2007. The Sepik is great - you will love it. | 1
Many thanks northmelbournedn for the tip. I am following it up. | 2
we had a great time on the Sepik in November, and we also booked through PNG frontier adventures. We went for 5 days on the Upper Sepik, saw birds of paradise and a lot of other wildlife, and got to some quite remote villages. Email contact with the company was intermittent - be patient! They hired a local man, Joe Kone, as our guide. The tour cost us around K8000 for two of us, and we felt it was worthwhile because we knew we were with a reputable company who would look after us. However, if I was to go back again now, I would contact Joe directly because he could give the same tour (minus a couple of creature comforts) for a much lower price. If your interested, Joe is a local to the Upper Sepik, but knows much of the river very well, he is a great guy who really took care of us. He lives in Ambunti. If you want to contact him, try joesephykone@yahoo.com.au I'm not sure how often he checks his email, but I think he tries to every week. and his written address is Joseph Kone have fun! | 3
