Sepik Trip

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi guys,

I'm going to be in PNG from August 26th - September 19th and am looking to include a Sepik trip during this time. I've looked into going with PNG Frontier Adventures and their itineraries look very good but the costs involved are understandably huge due to the logistics of the region.

If anyone is travelling to the area in the next month or so with a similar plan and would be interested in grouping together for a trip to reduce the per person cost of fuel etc..then feel free to get in touch as i'm a bit concerned that the costs involved are going to make it difficult for me to go alone.

Thanks,

James

Hi James. We plan to arrive in Wewak on sept 1st or 2nd. Our plan is to head independantly to the Sepik and find guide etc as we go. We were there a couple of years ago but for various reasons only managed to spend a day on the river but we do have a head start of a couple of contacts, assuming they are still around! I think a 2-3 (?4) day trip is the plan and we will negotiate petrol boat hire etc when we arrive. Happy to split costs for all this, it is an expensive endevour even independantly. drop us a line garyandnatalie@paradise.net.nz.

Hi guys,
We (2 french guys) plan to arrive in Wewak on Sept 2nd or 3rd. We are also interested in travelling along the Sepik. We would be happy to find the best way to do so for 2 to 4 days and to share costs with you because it seems to be quite an expensive trip ! Your experience and you local contacts may be also of great help.
Matt

I toured the Sepic quite a while ago (in 2000), but the guy who organized my tour did so cheaply, and it was great. I see his name now and then - Alois - and apparently he still runs the Ambunti Lodge (google it; you should come up with some contact info).
Ambunti is far enough inland that in a boat you can get pretty far into the interior. I was up there for 7 days; it was great.
