The Islands Around Kavieng

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi,

one more question: has any one been to the islands near Kavieng, for example New Hanover or Tsoi island? My problem is that I am going to be only two days there. After having bought the tickets, I read that there is a public boat to New Hanover only twice a week! I need to go to an island for two days and have to be back in Kavieng on certain time, otherwise I will miss my flight out of PNG and ruin my trip to Australia. If these islands are not an option in my case, is Nusa Island worth going to? Any other ideas? I have limited budget, I can not afford to rent a catamaran, but still looking for alternatives...

Thank you!

There are boats that go daily from the beach in Kavieng. They don't go on Sunday and there are probably fewer on Saturday. They go back to Kavieng from the islands early in the morning.

Thanks! You are right, I worry too much. I will just let my trip flow and will not try to control it... :o))

I went to Tunnung Island - it's island no.2 of 3 island harbour in April this year

Brilliant - but not cheap - I think food & accommodation was AUD$50 (food) + AUD$80 (bed) - the crossing by banana boat takes a couple of hours
