So...the trip planning continues... After I arrive in Port Moresby, I was thinking of spending a couple of days in the Tari area. I'm not sure exactly what day I will arrive (all my travel is on a stand-by basis), so depending on flights I will either fly directly to Tari or fly to Mt. Hagen and take public transportation. If it's the latter, how long do you think it would take to get from Mt. Hagen to Tari? Is it the 11 hours my old guidebook suggests? Is there any way to find out where MAF flies in PNG...I'd be looking to go from Tari to Pagwi, but am thinking I'd have to fly from Tari to Wewak via Hagen or POM.... Thanks guys,
with the lng gas project based around the tari area, air new guinea fly direct pom to tiz daily except saturday....usually around 9.30am....90 min flight which then comes direct back to pom same day/maf is based in mt hagen, there are no set schedules as such, and weather conditions sometimes ground their planes, along with some airstrips closed due to poor runways along with lack of avgas available in remote areas!the pmv trip from tari to hagen is at least 11 hours, with a swap over at mendi.its a bone cruncher from mendi to tari....mendi to hagen ok......there is no airstrip at pagwi, the maf flight from wewak goes to ambunti, karen from your last post you said you wanted to go to the blackwater lakes,is this still your end desire? | 1
Looks as though whenever I get to Wewak, I will take a pmv to Pagwi...and yes, I still wouldn't mind seeing the Blackwater Lakes area, but I don't think I need to start from Ambunti...as for the 11 hours, I'd do it if I had to...I've read the scenery is nice! Thanks, | 2
