traveling overland from Goroka or Mt. Hagen to Wewak

I've read that it can be dangerous since there are robbers. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it safe via PMV or whatever?

I don't think there is a road to start with - surely there wasn't when I travelled there.
The easiest was was to travel by road/PMV to Lae, then boat to Wewak. This was safe enough.

you cannot travel overland all the way - you need to travel by PMV to lae and then madang and then by boat
there are several posts here on this journey - it will take a few days - probabaly much easier to fly

there can be problems on any of the roads with roadblocks and raskols but ask around and travel low key you should be fine
