Trekking companions in PNG

Hi, I am looking for trekking companions for exploring PNG. I'm interested in people and wildlife, have some trekking gear, and would lie to do it somewhat independently (only hiring local guide at some points, paying locals for accomodation -- following some village trails, etc.). I am in Sandakan, Borneo now and would want to come in from the Jayapura/Vanimo side. About a month or a little less of trekking and traveling in the area? I'm a woman in my late 20's, fit, well-traveled, etc? and just would rather do this kind of a trip with (new) friends rather than alone. If anyone's doing a trip over there soon (or now) let me know if you'd be interested in a companion or +1 to your party, I would love to try and meet.

When are you planning to arive in Papua New Guinea? I'm looking to travel somewhere in the pacific in the coming months, not sure if this is your time range. I'm a guy, 22, Australian and pretty keen on travel - especially to places like this. I have no ticket yet, or solid plans...really just wondering where to go, and trawling through info. Let me know.

If anyone is going in February, then I'm flying there on 7th from Cairns and any company would be very welcome :) I'm 21, female, have travelled in Australia for 10 months and staying in PNG until 16th Feb.

Hi reichreich,

Was just wondering if you managed to make this trip in the end and if so how did you find PNG traveling as a woman? I am very keen to go to PNG in April/May crossing from Indonesia but a little hesitant about going it alone.

I would also be interested to get in touch with anyone else who is looking to head the same way at the end of April or beginning of May. I am female, 26 and I'm looking to spend around 2 - 3 weeks in PNG.
