| pimouss00:22 UTC06 Jun 2007 | hello, we are going in PNG in july.
is it allowed to practice underwater fishing with a gig (harpon) in PNG?
where and is it worth it?
is it dangerous with sharks around?
do the inhabitants agree with that?
thanks a lot

The other thing you have to consider is you have no idea what type or size of shark is going to turn up

Some fish trapping is done as is some netting. Sharks are not a real problem - ask the local people. The locals will gladly assist you with your questions and who knows better than a local? Is it worth it? PNG has the most incredible reef systems and fish life. The people are no different to other cultures - use the 80/20 rule. You will enjoy the place and the people. Do it! Come to PNG - the Land of the unexpected! You'll be glad you did............

Where? Milne Bay is a good start - the reef systems East of MB are extensive and pristine. Woodlark Island, Trobian Islands, Louisade Archipelago, D'Entrecasteau Islands.
