Is there a road from Vanimo to Green River??? If so, is it passable in the wet season? Has anyone trekked from Green River back to Papua (i know the border is not officially open there)? Any info about green river? The trip down the sepik from Green River? Does anyone know of any guides or sources of info in Vanimo? Thanks in advance. Mike
There's no road. There's no regular rive traffic downriver from Green River either. If you already know the border is not open, why insist on crossing it there? | 1
I agree on not blending in, not my true intention. Thanks for the info on the road, it shows on maps, but no one has been able to confirm this. I am coming in from Jayapura and only have about three weeks plus to venture out, any suggestions off the beaton track are welcome. | 2
So what is your "true intention"? Walking from Vanimo to Green River (using roads as far as they get you - maybe Bewani?) and then flying back should be possible in 3 weeks and as far off the beaten track as anything in PNG (including any trip along the Sepik itself). | 3
actually in dry season with the new logging company tracks you can drive with a good 4wd from vanimo to bewani in 2 hours(53kms),then 3 hours to imonda and then part of the way to amanab, this is where it gets tricky as the tracks turn to deep mud all year round with heavy rains...i did this in december 2009,they are working on joining green river to amanab by road, not sure how far they have progressed, the old airline in vanimo was called doveair,i think now its sunstate?they fly twice a week to green river via amanab.hard work indeed! | 4
Thanks. That is all useful info. | 5
