Visa for PNG in Jayapura? urgent information required. thanks a lot!

Hello Travelers,

we are 2 people from Germany and traveling very soon to PNG. we´ve heard that we will get a visa on arrival in PNG. But now we found out that we only get this at the airport in Port Morsby. Unfortunately we dont fly to POM . our flight is to Jayapura in West papua and from there we would like to travel by land to Vanimo in PNG. after 1 or 2 days there we are going back by land to Jayapura. we need to find out how long does it take to get a visa for PNG in Jayapura and is it free of charge or how much does it cost? do we need a visa to enter Indonesia from Vanimo? For germany is visa free entry in Indonesia but unfortunately i´ve heard only at some common airports.
we are so concernd about the visa, entry and departure in indonesia and PNG. our fligt is tonight already.
i know its very short in advance.

we would be grateful for every advice.

apparently there is not mich in vanimo so unless you want to tick off a box marked png you might be better to use you time and money to explore indonesian new guinea

Hi guys, I spoke to PNG Tourism UK on your behalf and they suggest speaking directly to the Mission based in Jayapura. Each location has their own visa hours and length of processing time....hopefully you'll be ok.

@ofrank: dont worry, the consulat is very friendly and helpful. usually the visa processing time is 5 days but if you ask them nicely to give you the visa earlier they probably will do it. the visa is even free of charge :-) good luck and safe travels!

@majordom and everybody who is going to PNG: the time in PNG was so much worth it! even only the area around vanimo offers SO MUCH!!! i loved the nature, beach and especially the people!!! i totally fall in love in this part of the world. when i crossed the border it was such a HUGE difference to indonesia. every moment in PNG was soooo awesome. but in indonesia i had the worst time ever. i hate the immigration and also most of the people are not nice at all. PNG is safe and a great place to go. i can just recommend it to everybody. even if you have a short time it is TOTALLY worth to visit it!!!!!

Thanks a lot Beautifulworld1 for your fast reply! Me and my wife stay now in Jayapura and we were worried because we arrived from Jakarta with a free Visa on Arrival and we read the same things ( entrance and exit permitted only in Some ports and airports). We hope no problem for tomorrow!

Unfortunately we had problems at indonesian immigration office in Jayapura because they absolutely don't permit US to cross the border because when we arrived at Jakarta airport the operator put a visa free in our passport although we explained we want to cross the border from jayapura to vanimo!!! So we had to come back to Jakarta AMD exit to Singapore. We spent some nice days

We spent some days there AMD come back to jacarta. There we bought a Voa And went to jayapura!!! For indonesian immigration office you can exit from Indonesia only from some ports and airports with a visa FEE. You must have a VOA to exit from jayapura(wutung border). We hope to help other travellers
