Wewak to Goroka: Best Transport Before Goroka Show?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hello,

I'm thinking of going to the Goroka show and heading there from Wewak. Time is tight, and while I would prefer to fly, I have encountered old posts that suggest that flights are overbooked into/out of Goroka around the show, and air transport can be difficult. I was thinking of showing up in Goroka on Sept 15 or 16, seeing the show on the 17th and 18th, and then going to Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area afterwards(although so far, they have yet to respond to my email). Do you think I'm better off using 2 days of bus travel from Wewak- Madang- Goroka or just fly from Wewak- Goroka? 2 straight days of bus travel seems like a waste of precious time when time is tight, but might be a more reliable way of getting to Goroka. What do you think?

Thanks.

sorry but i am confused!!!i don't believe there is any "bus"service that connects wewak to madang, there might be if there was a road?as for flyingl, i also do not know of any flights that connect wewak to goroka?the 2 options from wewak are to fly to madang (air new guinea)or the friday airlines png flight wewak to mt hagen.(11.20am)

You can fly between Wewak and Mount Hagen on Mondays and Fridays on APNG. Maybe that's an option?

There is no road along the coast.
We did it last August the opposite direction - from Madang via Bogia to Angoram using a boat which left from a place around 10km west of Bogia. You must stay for one night in Angoram and then again one night in Madang because you will always reach the place to late for continuing. But if you have time it's a great trip and certainly you will stay in Bogia for one two nights and meet Michael and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere there. The boat from Angoram is not regularly but they told us that nearly everyday at least one boat is going.
