Wewak to Vanimo by boat in Late December

Hello-
I was wondering if anyone has recently travelled from Wewak to Vanimo via ferry. I know boats go, but usually only once a month, and the offices are pretty vague at the moment on when that 'once' is... I do have some friends up there which maybe able to help me out in arranging something once I get up there- but just to set my mind at ease a bit I was wondering if anyone had taken (cheap) alternative routes, such as taking a PMv to Aitape then hopping along the coast on banana boats-it is still quite a distance to cover by little boat tho.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I've done that trip via Aitepe three times and consider it a viable alternative.
