What to do in 2-3 weeks PNG?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hello everybody

I think to to visit PNG in December or January thits (next) year.

Its not the best time of the year to travel there I know. But is it still worth to go at this time?

I would like to spend 2-3 weeks there. I would fly in from Tokyo or Manila and fly out to Manila or Singapure. Flying in and out to and from Port Moresby.

Is it possible to do a 2-3 week trip at a budget of 3000 Euro including flights?

I would like to see the Highllands (Mt Hagen,Goroka, Tari), a cruise on the sepik and Madang.

Thanks for your suggestions

Franz (Austria)

I think it is worth going to PNG any time, and your budget should be enough, even including all the flights you will need.
You may even be able to do this with only 2 flights, starting with a flight from PM to Wewak to see the Sepik, taking a boat from there (check schedules upon arrival!) to Madang, travelling all the way to Tari by PMV, then flying back to PM from there.
You'll definitely have to keep moving though.

Just for information,
Our budget for PNG for a month and two people was less than 1.000 EUR (including everything and two national flights), but we didn't do any luxurious activities and stayed in the cheapest places possible. All depends on the way you travel.
