Yuo island near WewakCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
Hello, I have just returned from a three week holiday in PNG. I just wanted to mention a guesthouse that isn't in the LP (probably because it only opened last year). It is on a very small island (about 30 families) called Yuo, an hour's boat ride from Wewak. The island is beautiful, has good snorkelling and I think surfing (though I'm not a surfer so I'm not entirely sure) and lovely people. The guesthouse is owned by a local man named Richard who lives next door with his wife Catherine and 7 gorgeous children. They help you with everything and showed us all around the island. The gueshouse is a traditional hut, right on the ocean. It costs 25 kina a night per person, and you also have to pay to get out there - Richard can take you on his boat. You need to bring your own food. We had a lightning stay so couldn't organise it, but if you had time you could catch your dinner. Richard's number is 72761483. Mobile reception can be a problem I think so you can also organise it through Chris Karis (a Sepik tour operator, details in LP or google PNG frontier adventures) which is what we did. He organised it all and it cost around 300 kina for two of us. That's it! I just thought it was worth publicising a very worthwhile local venture. Amy
You might want to post this on the guidebook updates branch, in the topic for the PNG book . LP might take notice if you do so. | 1
