5 days with little money and no plans - help!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

After travelling for the last 11 weeks this is the one country we have NO plans or clue about - we (four of us) would be very grateful to anyone who could point us in the direction of somewhere cheap and awesome to stay on Upolu, if that's possible. Ideally close to a sweet beach we just hope to find somewhere we can chill out properly. We'll be staying for about 5 days, arriving on the 21st of this month, before travelling home - any advice appreciated even just about where the good beaches for snorkelling are..

cheers,

I absolutely loved the
Virgin Cove Resort
on the South Western coast of Upolu. Admittedly, it is not the cheapest of places, but well worth the money I think. On a gorgeous secluded beach, great food and just total relaxation.

Virgin Cove is expensive.

Faofao is as cheap as they come, small, and perfect for relaxing. Was my favourite place in Samoa.

Make sure you take the trip over to the To Sua Ocean Trench.

Hi,

Faofao sounds cool - the cheaper the better - where abouts is it exactly? Is that the name of the area or place? Thanks again!

Faofao is at Saleapaga, near Lalomanu, all of which was totally devastated by the tsunami.

The snorkelling is slightly better at Lalomanu (Taufua is the main resort there, and it is also good), but the tsunami did some serious damage to the coral and it's just starting to come back, so there isn't really anywhere now with especially good snorkelling. The beach is superb, nonetheless.

Just make sure you stock up on anything you may need (cash being the main thing), because once you leave Apia, you're in the third world.

Hi,

thanks for the advice about Faofao, it worked out so well. We stayed at Sea Side Inn in Apia then took the bus down to Lalomanu, from there we took a taxi to Faofao. The four of us stayed in two beach fales paying $80US total per night including breakfast and dinner. Altogether a great way to finish off a long trip.

Good to hear that it worked out well.

How was your stay at SeaSide? I have heard that was a hellhole!
