A few questions about Samoa

We are visiting Samoa for a week in late August-early September, arriving on a Sunday and leaving next Sunday. That means staying 7 nights. I searched here and there, but couldn't find the following informations:
- Our flight arrives at 4 PM and the last ferry to Savaii departs at 5 PM. If everything goes smoothly, we should have enough time to take it, but the slightest delay with the flight, the paperwork, the luggage can spoil our plans, therefore we decided to go directly there, but trying a one or two days later.
- I am thinking to rent a car at the airport for the whole week, and take it on the ferry to Savaii, but I couldn't find fares for this. Even if it might be more expensive, it means also less hassle with rental companies. Besides, returning the car to company office and then taking a taxi to the ferry could be more expensive.
- Teuila festival starts right the day of our return flight. Can we expect any events or activities on the previous days?
- We could not find any specific schedule for fia fias and hotels or fales offering them, only a handful of them. I guess there is no list as such, is it?
- Is it worth a day trip to American Samoa?
