Advice on where to stay in Samoa

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Hi all. My brother is getting married in Samoa in March at Aggie Greys Resort. We found a package deal that wasn't too bad (compared to booking the resort separately), but then I heard that the resort might not be that great? That made me think maybe we should stay in Apia - but then I also read somewhere that Apia isn't anything to get too excited about!

So looking for some advice. Plan to stay in Samoa approx 7 - 8 days.
Thanks heaps

From what I've read, Aggy Grey is not bad at all. Where did you get your info? If you do not want to go for a package deal, you might want to try including a couple of nights on Savaii in your trip - or would this be difficult, being in this wedding party? I don't think you'd want to base yourself in Apia. From what I've read it's not a town to spend a week in, and you'll be missing out on a lot of what makes Samoa Samoa. I can let you know for sure in about two weeks time... flying to Apia next week.

Have stayed at both and there is nothing wrong with either Aggie Grey's Resort or Aggie's in Apia.
Apia is the hub of Upolu so nothing wrong with basing a stay from there either but if the wedding is at the Resort it makes more sense to stay there.
From memory the Resort put on a bus into Apia occasionally.

hi i haven't stayed at aggies resort ( but have visited ) and i think it will be a lovely place for a wedding, lucky it recieved no damage from the devestaing tsuami. the day spa there is fantastic ( highly recommened!!) you can ckeck out some recent holiday reviews if you go to trip advisor -samoa- then following links to reviews.
re apia, i love it. i think it has a great feel about it, but some people don;t like it , they say its hot and dirty ( which i wont lie, it is!) but i still love it, the markets are great.
i lovley resort ( our favourite!) is manumea resort, just out of town 5 mins, its up the hill so a bit cooler. but not on the beach.
if you make a day trip into town ( i believe aggies have shuttle buses) i would recommed the markets, and if you want some souviners / gifts ( bit more upmarket, fantastic stuff like teatowels , linen, homewares type style with a island influence) go to plantation house ( its in town near the university) also great fun is the sliding rocks ( a natural water slides / waterfalls / swimmng holes.) and a nice place for a fancy meal is bistro tautau ( this place is a real treat, the food is great , not set up for young kids , and a bit pricey, but fantastic!!)

congratulations and enjoy your wedding in paradise, we are back for our 5th trip in march!

Hey there. Stayed in Aggie Grey's about 4 yrs ago and loved the place. Rooms are not amazing but the resort is. Food was great and the boys calling you to dinner with conch shells was great! Got a massage outside in the spa with the waterfall cascading a few yards away...amazing!!! Also hired a car and drove the island in a day. Fabulous, beaches were lovely and locals were very friendly. There was a wedding on in Aggies the day we were leaving, gorgeous setting for one. Have an amazing time. I'm jealous!
