Airport hotel

Does anyone know of any alternative to the airport hotel in Samoa that doesn't involve going into Apia; airport hotel seems like a rip-off? Has anyone taken a taxi to the airport hotel, as opposed to their 'courtesy shuttle', which they charge through the nose for?!
Also, are there any ATMs at the airport?

Which hotel do you mean? I have never heard of an Airport Hotel under that name. There are three places in the area around the airport. Aggie Grey's Beach Resort & Spa, quite close, the Le Vasa Resort, about 6 miles away (both quite pricey indeed) and the Airport Lodge, a mid-range accommodation, about 5 miles away from the airport which explains why they might charge for transfers, especially when you are staying 1 or 2 nights only. The Airport Lodge is a rather small place so they are not at the airport with their van for every flight anyway but have to be booked in advance.

And yes, there are at least two ATM at the airport (Westpac, ANZ).

are we talking about Airport Lodge?? the one close to the Ferry Terminal? if so, I've stayed there a couple of months ago...we arrived around midnight so just needed a place to sleep and catch the first ferry to Savaii the next day...the place wasn't bad at all but there was NOTHING to do in the area...we arranged for airport pick-up...and room rates were pretty decent...can't remember how much but think it was like US$50-60..
