Apia Fagalii Airport to re-open soon

It has just been announced that the Apia town airport (Fagalii) will be re-opened soon, presumably first week of July. Polynesian Airline will offer services to American Samoa during daytime. We all hope that the flights to Savaii will be back as well but so far there is no news about that.

That's great, particularly if flights to Savaii resume. I've never really fancied the ferry trip!

You had it faster online than I could find it in today's printed copy of the Samoa Observer here, lol. But otherwise we are very up to date - the radio stations broadcast Michael Jackson songs all day already.

This is good news, however, the ride from Faleolo is beautiful. And it's pretty neat that Savai'i flights will start back up.

The flight over Apia and along the coast, then across the Apolima Strait is spectacular, but
I'll never forget the feeling of aprehension flying into land on the, seemingly, freshly carved from the jungle airstrip at Moata (sp?)

The article mentioned that Polynesian has 2 Twin Otters. I don't know them but they don't sound very big so maybe it's as well it's a short flight LOL.

OK, according to Wikipedia they carry 20 pax.

The Twin Otter, AKA DH-6 and Dash-6 will carry from 16-20 passengers depending on how it's configured for seats and freight. It's a very rugged and dependable aircraft and, in capable hands, has excellent short-field and crosswind performance. We use them a lot in Alaska where you'll see them on wheels and floats.

I'm guessing they won't fly to Maota then - I wasn't confident about the 6 seater there!

The Twin Otters always serviced Maota too in the past and they will be doing it again. Sadly the 6-seater Britten-Norman Islander is for sale though. I loved that plane.
