Attn: South Pacific All Stars: I Enjoy The Banter!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

First of all, i will tell you guys that I enjoy the banter between all you south pacific regulars (islandboi and the rest).
You can tell that you guys have strong opinions about your likes and dislikes of your favorite countries. Its so good to see- people commenting with genuine interest! Over the years i have dabbled in thorntree just to get a travellers perspective of the places in the country that i am going to visit. I usually do a bit of research, then just head off and wing it, as i believe too much information and too many plans make it less of a true journey! Dont you think?
However this year im heading to countries that arent huge tourist destinations (Samoa and Tonga), so i really would like a bit of advise from the experts.
Luckily, I have 5 weeks in Samoa and about a month in Tonga. So, i have plenty of time to relax in the places i like and time as well to spend a few days on an inner island trek as well (Samoa) or take the ferry up to Haapai (Tonga)- i intend to do both.
I figure my budget will be about 50 cdn a day, after all relaxing is fairly cheap. Staying in fales, a few activities, you know the deal.
So, What im looking for is your opinion on how i should spend my five weeks on Samoa and my four weeks in Tonga.
im looking for some trekking and out of the way kind of places (like Uafato).
In Tonga, i wish to visit the Haapai group, looks like an adventure getting there (i love reading about horrible ferry rides!) and the ultimate place to relax!
In Samoa, i figure i got the time to see quite a bit, i would really like to see O Le Pupu-Pu'e National park and make it to the top of mt. fito.
So, any advice or comments would be great, I dont leave til early December so this post will be about the last of my research, hope to hear from you guys, Christy

I never did like being associated with a consortium... Plus I'm NEVER opinionated... Hah!

I guess islandboi agrees since he's not giving up any info. You'd think that he would have at least told you that you had a PM. (I've noticed he does that for select posters. I suspect that he's telling them about the fales where the cool kids go.)

December in Tonga---good luck! Bring a portable air-conditioner! Samoa probably the same.

You can pick up lots of stuff by reading recent posts, there's been a bunch about Tonga and Samoa in the last few weeks.

But you have plenty of time, so you can afford to "wing it" a lot more than most people. sounds like a great trip!

Chris, I have sent you a PM.

Silvanocat: You forgot to add the "smiley face" after your comments. You did forget, right? :)
