| hikoi04:26 UTC24 Jul 2007 | Thanks for everyones advice .
Just one more question, how much would you say you spent on a daily basis on your Samoa trip?
There's me and my wife, 2 week trip, staying in budget fale type accommodation with an odd night in a more upmarket place. We hope to do a week on Savai'i and a week on Upolu, might hire a car for 2 or 3 days. We eat and drink like most people and love sampling new kai (food). No doubt the markets will get a nudge and whilst she's doing that ill be playing in the sea. I'm also quite keen on doing some wildlife/walking stuff...maybe not a tour as such but ill suss it out when we get there. We also indulge our passion for photography especially wildlife
We are just trying to work out what kind of daily cost to maybe expect????
Cheers again and looking forward to our holiday Samoa stylz

| teine22:29 UTC25 Jul 2007 | Budget fales - will cost approx. $30 - $80 tala per night per person, usually including breakfast and dinner.
Car rental - for a basic jeep will run about $100-$130 per day plus a deposit and drivers licence.
Food – Restaurants vary in price. But the average meal for two people (with drinks) would run about $40 - $70 tala. The local beer is pretty cheap and pretty good! Mixed drinks, hard liquor and wine are pricey. Market food is very cheap and we found that for $10-$15 tala we could get a pretty good meal for two of taro, polusami, bread, bananas and pankekes. Imported foods are expensive peanut butter was about $32 tala for the large jar! You can also find good food at some of the BBQ stands for about $6 (just ask that they replace your turkey tails with an extra piece of chicken!). You will also find small stores all over the place to fill up on snacks (I recommend the taro, banana and breadfruit chips).
As for hiking, you will find trails around the national park but a nice hike to start out would be to climb to up to RL Stevenson’s grave in Vailima. Climb up the short way and take a nice loooong stroll down the long way. You won’t see much wildlife but lots of beautiful vegetation. Good luck planning your trip!
