Bike Rides

Oh yeah almost forgot, anyone done a day or two hiring bicycles in Samoa? Ive heard that a few parts of Savaii are quite nice for a day to hire bikes and cruise (we know the dogs can be a pest).

Not thinking about bike touring, just packing a small day pack and heading off somewhere on a sunny day

The Internet cafe in Manase and the Pizza shop nearby both provide casual day bike hires on Savaii.
Bikes for touring are available from the Airport Lodge on Upulo - see www.outdoor.co.nz.

Dog problems are a bit overstated. In seven rides around Savaii we have never had a serious problem. There have been a few incidents with dogs rushing at bikes, but spraying them with water from a bottle, or even just raising a hand as if to throw stones has always worked as an effective deterent.
