is it necessary to book fales in advance on upolu island? if so, what is the best way to go about this over the net?

It is neither necessary nor possible to book most places in advance online.
There are far more fales than tourists around, and only a few very popular places ever fill up.
Should that happen to be the case with your choice, you could almost certainly find empty fales next door.
