Buying health food in Apia & SalelologaCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa
Hi you Samoa experts, I have a few food shopping questions. Q1: Is it possible to buy whole meal/whole grain bread ? Q 2: Is there anywhere that sells wholefoods such as brown rice, wholegrain/bran brekky cerial, yoghurt? Q4: Are there any restaurants specialising in Veggo food ? Q 5: What kind of foodstuffs CAN"T you get in Savai'i that you CAN get in Upulo? Thanks Edited by: EleanorSamia
Not as difficult as you might assume. Q1: Wholegrain bread: Yes, there is, but only in Apia. Lynn's store at Motoutua is the most reliable place to get fresh Kibbled Rye bread. Try Lucky Foodtown as well. Q2: Wholefood for brekky: At least Wheatbix are very common everywhere, even in Savaii. At Lynn's and especially Lucky Foodtown you will find a wider variety, i.e. Sanitarium muesli, and even yogurt, soy/rice milk and other health food items. Farmer Joe's supermarket (Apia) has some too. Q4 (no Q3 ;-)): Vegetarian restaurant? I heard about one at the Flea Market in Savalalo/Apia CBD, but I have never tried. Most restaurants have vegetarian dishes. Even though I never met a Samoan vegetarian, there are enough tourists with that demand. Q5: No fresh wholemeal bread in Savaii. I'm not sure about yogurt. Eat Samoan food, i.e. Palusami, Taro, Yam, all with coconut cream. Delicious and very vegetarian. | 1
