Car rental companies and route advice?

We arrive at the airport around 4 pm and have 9 days to tour both islands. Does anyone have route advice? Would you go to Savai'i first and then Upolu? Or go into Apia and then hire a car? And where would you rent a car: thanks-

If you want to see everything you can and you can budget for the car rental, then I would definitely rent a car in Apia. You can head into Apia from the international airport, rent a car the next morning. Travel clockwise around Upolu and end up at the ferry to Savaii on the north western coast. You can pay to take your rental car on the ferry.

We've only rented a car from AA rental cars in Apia, have friends who have rented from them as well, no issues. Have heard good things about Sa'Moana Rental cars.
