cheaper way to get to Samoa, Cooks and Niue from Europe

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Hi travellers,

As flying to the Cook Islands (probably also taking in Samoa and Niue), all the way from Europe, is very expensive, I was wondering if there is a cheaper way getting there.. perhaps by cargo boats, alternating with land travel etc... Any ideas? Is there anyone on here who has done it that way or maybe heard that someone managed to do it?

Would appreciate any feedback!

Cheers and happy travels!

There is no cheap way from Europe to the South Pacfic.
And the 3 island nations you've selected have no direct air-links with each other either, meaning you need to fly from one to the other via NZ, which won't make it cheaper either.

A better selected combination like Vanuatu-Fiji-Samoa, linked by Fiji Air, could work out cheaper.

Least expensive (and quickest) flight option from Europe - I calculate from Frankfurt - would be to fly direct to Hong Kong, and from there to Fiji. Probably cheaper options that take longer.

Close second in cost (but takes more time) is route Europe-Singapore-Brisbane-Vanuatu ..

The S Pacific region is quite far from everywhere. Even if you somehow traveled overland to Singapore, you'd still be left with onward flights at maybe 40% of the direct flight from Europe .. and you'd still have to invest the time and money in overland travel to get that far.

Cargo boats .. forget it, that's last century.
