Currency exchange at Apia airport open late?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa
Hi there, Also I understand there's no buses to Apia at that hour, right? Is it better to catch a cab or ask the hotel to arrange a pick up? I've now emailed the Seaside Inn, anybody stayed there?
Money exchange points at the airport are open for any major international flight regardless of the time it arrives. ANZ and Westpac have a counter and both have ATMs as well. Rates and fees are the same as at the banks in town. There is an Airport Shuttle Bus which will take you to your hotel. As far as I remember they charge 25 Tala per person (approx.10 USD). Enjoy your stay! | 1
I also stayed my first night at Seaside Inn which is OK but Princess Tui Inn nearby, only a bit further away (both close to the Palolo deep marine spot), is nicer than Seaside, in my opinion. Tui has cheap internet, atmospheric old building and swimming beach opposite the building but I think the breakfast was fairly better at Seaside. Tui's cheapest dorm bed is even 3 tala cheaper at 39 tala per night, and the staff at both places is very helpful and nice. I also arrived late and took one of those airport shuttles to Seaside. and paid 25 tala just like wksamoa says. There are cab drivers at the airport touching your shoulders and willing to drive you to town but for no less than 50-60 tala. The normal Samoan buses from the airport to Apia would be only around 3 Tala but I don't think any of them operate at late hours (they are an experience to partake in in the morning and afternoon.) | 2
No normal buses at night in Upolu, only between 5 am and 6 pm. | 3
And I heard buses don't drive at all on Sundays on Upolu, even though they did on Savai'i..? | 4
Buses go to the wharf on Sundays on both islands and as virtually all buses on Savaii go to the wharf anyway it appears to be business as usual. But you will find the bus to the wharf (pasi o le vaa) between Apia market and Mulifanua on Sundays as well, passing the airport too. No other Sunday buses on Upolu though. | 5
We stayed our first night at the Seaside Inn as well. Fantastic breakfast served outside on the verandah, and we got an upgrade from a dorm to a twin as we were the only guests there. Friendly staff too. (This was March 2009). | 6
They offered the same for me (en-suite room as a dorm) as this time (February) is low and silent season. Other good things about Seaside are that it's closer to town than Princess Tui (which is plagued by some nearby dogs) and it has couple of stores/bars nearby. | 7
Thank you very much guys! yeah, the Seaside inn told me about the cab as i'm paying the 25 tala. | 8
