Elderly parents need travel info on where to go?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

My parents are 65yrs and going to Samoa in September for 12 days looking to have some cultural experiences rather than tourist stuff e.g.; diving ,fishing, etc.
Can anyone recommend good things for them to do on Upolu?
Interesting thing for them to do on Sauvii?
Good accommodation for people of there age?

Do your parents know you refer to them as elderly? They are my age- I'd smack my kids upside the head if they started referring to me as elderly!

Having not been to Samoa, yet, I have nothing other to offer.

sniff

And Only Somewhat a JOKE!

The elderly sure gave me a laugh. Granted I'm only in my late 50's but this weekend I'm going backpacking. (Or trekking as most of you call it with a tent and stove loaded in my backpack and miles to walk each day.)

I enjoyed staying at Aggie Grey's in Apia. They also have a resort on the beach but I haven't seen that. A number of the accomodations offer dance performances in the evening. The ones that I saw at Virgin Cove and Taufua beach fales were very entertaining. Not really a culture vulture myself so can't help you more. (FYI, two years ago aside from splashing out at Aggie's I also slept on mattress on fale floors. Of course I am spry for my age.)

I googled and found:

Late 50's- still a young un!

Have a great weekend. My knee is looking to be replaced (ok- some aspects of getting a bit older aren't fun) so trekking is out.

Looks like lots to do although the Miss Samoa pageant would not be high on my list- are these the young adults or the kids? Although it certainly is part of the living culture around the islands, and yes, here in the US too, I guess.

I have a buddy (woman) turning 75 in a few days...going on 55. I have another buddy (woman) turning 71...going on 81. So just go ahead and slap those kids anyway. {:"}

Sorry all over 50's, i have used the wrong word for explaining there age, more their abilities.
They are more bush strolls and cabins than trecking and tents people.
Thanks silvanocat for the festival infomation.

More interesting places to vivit would be great.
Thanks
Danielle

go to savaii, recommend going on a guided tour- see the Taga blowholes, tafua rainforest & crater, afuaau waterfalls, Saleaula lava fields & ruins, swim with turtles, letui pe'apea(Swiflet) lava tube/cave..... some tour guids will do some village tours as well to get some true cultural experience- try savaiian hotel website (re tour info) (google savaiian hotel) good luck

Highly recommend Tanu Beach Fales in Savaii Island. I was there with the family about 5 yrs ago and going back again in November. Nice family atmosphere, greatest beach I found in Savaii and excellent value for money.
