| wksamoa05:43 UTC20 Nov 2007 | The Samoan Way of Life. Everything that is traditionally Samoan. Language, customs, family system, ceremonies, songs and dances. Samoan culture overall. Besides the Fa'a Samoa there is the Fa'a Palagi, the way of life of the strangers (all non-Samoans, especially all non-Polynesians). Both are not necessarily opposite, just different.
The Fa'a Samoa is very important to the Samoan people. There was a cartoon in the Samoa Observer, our daily newspaper, with two guys having the following conversation:
A to B: 'People would love to know how we do it here in Samoa ...' B to A: 'Why do they do it different elsewhere?' A to B: 'I have heard it is done differently everywhere' B to A: I didn't think it could be done any other way, that's just not right ...' A to B: 'Not right, are we talking about same thing, what are you talking about? B to A: 'You know, everything. If it is not done the SAMOAN WAY it's not been done!"

That cartoon wouldn't have been "Sole" and his "Pappa" by any chance?"

| farsante06:57 UTC08 Dec 2007 | fa'a means "in the way of" Fa'a Samoa therefore means, as WKSamoa so beautifully explains, "in the way of Samoa"
And so we have "Fa'afafine" fafine being "woman"
Lovely language, isn't it.
And this I all learnt from my Lonely Planet guidebook. I guess that all fits with this new commercial Thorn Tree site!
