First time visit to Samoa

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Hello

we are a group of girls travelling to Samoa in a couple of months, we are over there for an event, however on our day's off we want to do as much sight seeing as possible. so far we have decided to hire a vehicle on Saturday and go to
Lalomanu beach - Sua ocean trench - and Piula caves, is this going to be a bit much for one day? we also want to get fruit n veges from the Markets in Apia, but also do a bit of shopping at a local grocer? also seems Sunday's are days when everything shuts as its a Sabbath day...we were going to keep the vehicle for Sunday but im wondering if its a waste of time...given everythings going be closed...any suggestions on where we can go, what we can see on a Sunday.. Lastly best places to eat, I've seen that kokobanana, and Paddlers might be the go?

thank you

Lalomanu Beach and To'Sua Ocean Trench are open on Sundays too; Piula Cave is not as it is on a church ground. Visiting all three is certainly doable, however you will most likely only have time for a swim and relax at one of them or swim and no relax at two. You should at least swim at To'Sua - it is really something special.

Getting fruit and veggies from the markets is no problem - they are open 24/7. Some stores open on Sundays too, especially in the early morning and in the late afternoon. Almost all restaurants are closed though, even in the evening, except in the hotels. The Yacht Club at Mulinuu is open on Sundays too, after 5pm.

Restaurant recommendations are really a matter of personal preferences. Kokobanana and Paddles, yes. But there are more. Scalinis, Encounter, Rendez-vous, Amanaki, Millenia, Giordano's Pizza, just to name a few.

Hi there

Brilliant thanks so much, we can make sure somethings organized for dinner on Sunday...we might also save lalomanu for Sunday so we can enjoy the day there, heard it was a beautiful beach..and go the the trench and caves on Saturday. ..is there a grocer anywhere we could grab the bare necessities. ..also can you suggest a fia fia show close to apia thats good value for money

Thanks for your advice

There is a fiafia show at the Samoa Tradition Resort every Thursday evening, starting 7pm.
Regarding groceries you better get all you need in Apia. Lynns store in Motoutua, near to the hospital, is open every day and so is Farmer Joe at Fugalei, close to the market (just re-opened).
